Chapter 67 Verses 5
Original text We have beautified the world’s heaven with lamps, and We have made them missiles for the devils, and for them We have prepared the doom of flame.
Problem This reflects an ancient erroneous belief that the stars of the heavens were actually fairly close to the Earth and attached to a sphere called “The Firmament”. Whether the Quran claims shooting stars original from stars or are stars themselves isn’t relevant, as both claims are wrong. The nearst star to our solar system is Alpha Centuri, situated 4.37 light years from Earth. This means that if something were to be shot at Earth from a star it would take over 4 years to reach its target even if travelling at the speed of light.
Solution Remove the part about shooting stars being missiles.
