Chapter 23 Verses 5-6
|
|
---|---|
Original text | Who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or whom their right hands possess |
Problem | These two verses say it is okay to have sex with one’s slaves. Seeing as these slaves were considered property it should be made explicitly clear that this sex should only occur with the slave’s consent. |
Solution | If sex with slaves should require consent then explicitly state that the slave’s permission is required, and should take place only after a specific amount of time to grieve for killed relatives to ensure the slave is in a mentally fit state to consent. |
New text | Who abstain from sex, except with those joined to them in the marriage bond, or whom their right hands possess with their permission and not before (X time) of being captured or grieving |
