These two verses say it is okay to have sex with one’s slaves. Seeing as these slaves were considered property it should be made explicitly clear that this sex should only occur with the slave’s consent.
There is division over the meaning of this verse. Some say you can hit a your wife as long as it is lightly and not in the face, others say you cannot pass the first two instructions and therefore can never hit your wife. If a man cannot hit his wife then it should be made clear.
Saying that the heavens were raised up reflects the incorrect geocentric creation story of Genesis where the Earth existed and the heavens were raised up from it.
One of the cosmological misconceptions at the time was that the heavens were held up by pillars. At first glance Quran seems to be addressing this myth, but in adding the words that you can see still allows for the possibility of invisible pillars. This is additionally troublesome as The Book of Enoch describes how the heavens are held up from the Earth by the four winds of the North/East/South/West. The Quran could just as easily be stating that the firmament of the heavens is held up by invisible pillars.
The verse could be interpreted as saying that a journey continued until the place of the setting sun was reached. This implies a flat Earth where the sun orbits the Earth and sets in a specific place each night.
